What a fantastic conclusion to our hugely successful Christmas Shoebox campaign – the Foundation Christmas party was a brilliant day for the local school children of Sal Island.
Friday 18th December saw school children from across the island of Sal gather at MELIA Dunas Beach Resort & Spa’s amphitheatre for the annual event, hosted by The Resort Group. Now in it’s fifth year the Foundation Christmas party has grown bigger and better every year and this year was no exception.
CEO of the Resort Group and founder of the Foundation, Rob Jarrett, started off proceedings with a speech about the work we’ve done this year. It was a great round up of all that the Foundation has achieved in 2015 – another year where we were “committed to making the difference”.
Food boxes of pizza, chips, croquettes, calamari and chicken nuggets were then served, which went down a treat with the children. Once everyone had been suitably filled up with food, it was time for the entertainment. Brilliant and bright balloon animals and lots of face painting kept everyone very happy. As did our mascot Ted – he had lots of photos taken and cuddles throughout the day.
Next up was a look at the flair of the island as the Talent Show began. Adding to the talent, each school performed a song and dance so thank you to Escola Ildo Lobo (Pedra de Lume), Complexo Educativo de Santa Maria, Escola da Pretoria, Escola Nova and Escola Zeca Ramos (Palmeira) for their outstanding routines.
As we were working up to the big reveal of our ‘very special guest’ Mr Claus, the children were delighted to see the heroic Peter Pan and his crew on the stage to fight the dastardly pirates. A superb show by Nelson and the animation team from MELIA Dunas Beach Resort & Spa.
Santa Claus made his appearance to hand out our shoeboxes to the children. They were filled with amazing donations of clothing, stationary, toys and school materials from guests staying in our hotel as well as from team members of The Resort Group. Of course, the children were absolutely delighted – it was great to give something so positive back to the island of Sal.
From everyone here at the Cape Verde Foundation, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We can’t wait to continue our support of the local community and people of Cape Verde in 2016.
